Indian Actor Hrithik Roshan crowned Asia’s sexiest man

Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan topped Eastern Eye newspaper’s renowned list of the 50 Sexiest Asian Men In The World for the second year in a row.

Even though he was the hot favourite and led right from the beginning, the win came as a major surprise to Indian cinema’s hottest pin up. Hrithik said, ‘I am extremely humbled at the public’s decision, also a little embarrassed as I just can’t imagine myself as sexy! I’m actually someone who’s just trying to get by with his battered, bruised and broken tools. So a big thanks to all, for this dose of encouragement!”

The 38-year-old actor beat the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Ranbir Kapoor to clinch the top spot.

The Eastern Eye Newspaper said the star of 2012 hit ‘Agneepath’ beat off tough competition from around the world and won by an even bigger margin than a year ago as he received votes from all over the world from continents that included Asia, Europe, Africa and South America.

Hrithik who is working on hotly anticipated superhero film Krrish 3 has become one of the most sought after names in cinema, television and by big brand endorsements. He beat Pakistani pop star turned actor Ali Zafar who was the surprise runner up. Salman Khan finished third and last year’s runner Shahid Kapoor came fourth.

Shah Rukh Khan came seven and was followed by John Abraham at eight and Ranbir Kapoor at number 9. Eastern Eye showbiz editor Asjad Nazir, who puts together the very popular list and is chairman of the judging panel, said despite having the best physique, those voting for Hrithik were impressed by a lot of his other qualities.

From SRK to Big B, stars join the anti-smoking movement

G.One: Pata hain har saal haazar log cigarette peena chod dete hain? Prateek: Wow! Packet pe warning padh ke? G.One: No. Mar ke

Thus goes the sequence in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Ra.One. SRK may be a chain-smoker in real life, but he did carry an anti-smoking message in the film, which he says he produced for his children.

Apart from such messages, celebrities Amitabh Bachchan and Vivek Oberoi have been associated with the government's anti-tobacco movement in recent past.

And they have been able to influence people quit their tobacco addiction, a recent research by the directorate general of health services, ministry of health and family welfare, has found.

The ministry, in association with the department of community medicine, Maulana Azad Medical College(MAMC) and Manas Foundation, assessed the effect of viewing anti-tobacco audiovisual messages in a cinema.

"To see the effectiveness of a celebrity advocating harmful effects of tobacco, a spot containing a message by Vivek Oberoi was chosen ('Choose life not tobacco')," Dr Jagdish Kaur, chief medical officer, National Tobacco Control Programme, ministry of health, and one of the researchers, said.

"Around 76 per cent remembered the anti-tobacco messages and the 'Choose life not tobacco' spot gave 37 per cent viewers inspiration not use tobacco products," she added.

Dr Jugal Kishore from MAMC and Monica Kumar from Manas were also involved in the study.
